(Oct 17, 2014) Berlin - Bad Doberan - Kühlungsborn - Frankfurt Main [ドイツ・オーストリア鉄道旅行 2014]

I succeeded in getting up early and taking the train RE 4352 hauled by 112 101 departing from Berlin Hbf at 06:44. I sat on a seat of first class placed on the upper floor of double-deck coaches. Since I was very tired from the busy travel, I fell in sleep at the convenient seat. When I got up, the train was stopping at Neustrelitz Hbf and waiting for the arrival of the train from Neubrandenburg. Departing from the station, the train headed for northwest and called at Lalendorf. After leaving Lalendorf, the train changed its direction to east. Stopping at Güstrow, the train ran to north and arrived at its terminus, Rostock Hbf at 09:26 with three-minute delay.

After taking breakfast at a café in front of Leipzig Hbf, I took RE 13116 for Wismar, using Siemens Desiro 642 552/052. The train left Rostock Hbf at 10:06 and traveled westward. The section between Rostock and Wismar has only single track and was unelectrified. It took nineteen minutes from Rostock Hbf to Bad Doberan station.

The train of Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn “Molli” bound for Kühlungsborn West was waiting at the platform. Soon, the steam locomotive 99 2324 was approaching the train and coupled with it. 99 2324 is the latest steam locomotive. Surprinsingly, it was produced in 2009 at the Meiningen Steam Locomotive Works.
I got on the traditional dining car and order a bottle of beer. The train left Bad Doberan at 10:36 on time and ran through the central area of te town with stops at Stadtmitte and Goethestrasse. After fiftenn minutes from Bad Doberan, the train was approaching Heiligendamm, a famous resort town near the Baltic ocean. I already finished drinking beer and would like to ask the wait staff to calculate, but she was not there. When I went out to the deck to look for her, she and the train conductor were hugging. I was so impressed at the peaceful atmosphere of this charming railway. Finishing the payment, I moved to the coach just behind the hauling locomotive.

The train made a stop for several minutes at Heiligendamm to wait for the opposite train bound for Bad Doberan hauled by 99 2322. The train left Heiligendamm at eleven o’clock and got to its terminus, Kühlungsborn West, at 11:21. . I went to the small “Molli” museum inside the station building, and then came back the platform and enjoyed watching the shunting of the locomotive.

I took the train for Bad Doberan departing at 11:35. It took only nine minutes to Kühlungsborn Ost. I walked around the resort town on the Baltic sea, and ate a dish of fish for lunch.

I left Kühlungsborn Ost at 12:44 by a train hauled by 99 2322, and got off at Stadtmitte which was located in the central area of Bad Doberan. I walk around there and took a picture of the steam locomotives running through the narrow street on the small town.

I came back to Bad Doberan station at 14:18 by the next train, and transferred to the DB train RE 13125 bound for Tessin at 14:30. The train reached Rostock Hbf at 14:51.

The old 115 350 was stored in the yard. I took the train RE 4363 consisted of double-deck coaches with pushing locomotive 112 107, leaving Rostock Hbf at 14:49. The train took different route from RE 4352, going southward directly to Waren without any stops. The train stopped all the stations between Neustrelitz and Gransee. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery including some lakes from the window.

Leaving Oranienburg, the train ran along with the S-Bahn line. Passing Birkenwerder, RE 4352 changed its direction to east and went through to Berliner Aussenring (Berlin’s outer-ring railway). Then, the train went southwest over Stettiner Bahn from Karower Kreuz, made a stop at Berlin Gesundbtunnen, and went underground and got to Berlin Hbf at 17:18 with two-minute delay.

I had planned to enjoy dinner in Berlin and take the night train CNL to Karlsruhe. I took S-Bahn train to move to downtown area near Berlin Zoo station, but I heard the station announcement told that train driver’s strike would take place from 2 a.m. of the next day. I wonder whether the CNL train would be operated or not, and unluckily, the official website showed that the train would be cancelled. I took some pictures of trains at Tiergarten S-Bahn statin and came back to Berlin Hbf. I’d like to have a refund of the CNL ticket, but I gave up since the ticket office was too crowded.

I made up my mind to go to Frankfurt Main because I would have a flight the next day. I took the train ICE 877 from Berlin Ostbahnhof to Karlsruhe Hbf, leaving Berlin Hbf at 18;32 . The train was very crowded, but I found out a seat at the dining car. It’s the last night of this travel. I drunk and ate much with my friend and enjoyed ICE dinner instead of the CNL travel. As a result, I spent over four hours at the dining car, all the way to Frankfurt Main, and paid over 50 Euro. The train arrived at Frankfurt am Main Hbf at 22:43. As soon as checking in a hotel near the station, I fell asleep.

DBはよくストをやりますね。私もDBのストでだいぶんひどい目にあいましたが、たまたま我々だけがストに遭遇したのか、それともしょっちゅうやっているのか。いずれにせよあまりしょっちゅう酷い目に遭うとユーザーはほかの交通手段を選びますね。そういえばJRになって以来、ストがあったということは聞いたことないですが。。。

楽しく拝読させて頂きました。ただ、翻訳した変な日本語でですが。

DBのストは最近は結構有るのですね。
私も昨年11/8に酷い目にあいました。
他国に迷惑を掛けない為か、オランダやスイス、チェコ等への国際列車はある程度運転されていましたが。
ストを度々決行すればかつての日本国鉄がそうで有った様に客離れしますね。
遅れは今回の私の旅程では殆ど無かったですが。

バート・ドベランのモッリーを楽しまれた様ですね。私は10数回訪問していますが素晴らしいです。
リューゲン島やドレスデン近郊等にも750mmゲージのSLが運行されていますので機会があれば訪問されるのをお勧めします。

ストは最近は多いようで、しょっちゅうニュースで見ます。労働条件の見直しで交渉が難航しているようです。DBも様々な競争にさらされていますから、そうそう妥協できないのでしょう。JRは民営化にあたって、労働組合の力をそれだけ削いだという面があるのかもしれませんね。

ストでも主要路線では1~2時間間隔で列車は走っていました。1回の旅行で2回のストに遭遇するとは思いませんでした。
モリーは本当に素晴らしいです。自然の中を走るHSBとは異なる魅力がありました。他のSLも是非試したいものです。
